About The Artist

Artist’s Statement:

My collage and assemblage pieces are an intuitive journey using an extensive array of found materials along with my own painting and photography, creating works that reflect my inner life and my relationship with the world. I love the tactile qualities I get by combining various materials and different textures with images. I have always had a strong attraction to patterns, textures, the play of light and shadow, transparency, reflections, and how these all affect color. I like to play with scale and the juxtaposition of disparate images and objects to see how they can affect their meaning. I try to instill in my work a variety of esthetic beauty, inspiration and joy. My passion for art is endless. I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy creating it.

BIO and Resume:

I have loved making art my whole life, and have always felt a strong attraction to the colors and patterns in nature. Many artists and their techniques have influenced my work, but the beauty of the natural world is what most often inspires me. I come from a family of artists, musicians and avid gardeners. I was born and raised on Long Island, New York, where I grew up close to the water.  I spent many joyful hours beach-combing and exploring quiet, out-of-the-way places where my imagination could run wild. My artist mother taught me to appreciate the Arts at an early age while my father, the family shutterbug, inspired me to begin studying black and white photography in high school. My camera has been a constant companion ever since. I’ve always been attracted to vintage and used items, old photos, maps, letters and postcards, many of them collected from family members.

After attending C.W. Post College for my freshman year, I moved to Los Angeles, where I briefly attended California State University Northridge, focusing on photography, ceramics and sculpture before leaving to fulfill several commissions for stained-glass windows, which lead to a full-time business for over 8 years. In 2007, I returned to CSUN and graduated with a B.A. in Art. My focus since has been on photography and painting, which led me to experimenting with ways of combining the two using collage techniques. In 2012 I began exploring assemblage, feeding my love of collecting organic and man-made vintage materials and putting them to creative use.
